HP on LJ: a feeble attempt at fannish humor
So, we were twittering, as you do. And [info]xochiquetzl and I started kicking around how various people would use LJ. There are a variety of ways to play with social networking platforms, and I think how you use and present yourself on LJ reflects your own values and personality.

And “people,” of course, leads directly to “Snape.” Always the first person to come to mind, in any fannish discussion that I’m part of, obviously. So, we wondered: how would Snape use LJ?

Which leads to the question: how would any of them have used LJ, if it had been available at Hogwarts?

Marauders’ Era on LJ

Lily Evans: A definite LJ BNF, Lily has a flist that tops 500 people, and she friends all of them back. Her posts are almost always upbeat, and she wields a mean cut tag. She has over 100 icons, many of them created for her exclusive use by friends. Mod of the Gryffindor Common Room community, she’s an active mod who doesn’t tolerate nonsense and keeps it civil.

James Potter: Would like to be a co-maintainer of the Gryffindor Common Room comm., but Lily wouldn’t trust him further than she could throw him, in that capacity. Famous for hacking the Slytherin Common Room comm (with Sirius’ help) during 6th year and redoing its layout in a striking red and gold. Has over 300 on his “friends of” list, but usually can’t be arsed to read the flist.

Remus Lupin: Got an LJ because Sirius and James bugged him until he gave in, but doesn’t use the [info]rjlupin journal much. Got a sockpuppet journal so that he could join the Werewolves Anonymous comm., a source of considerable support and advice for him at this stage in his life.

Sirius Black: is very well known to the members of the LJ Abuse team.

Peter Pettigrew comments like crazy on other people’s posts, but they seldom comment on his. Has three sockpuppet journals, too. Including one that got accepted into the Slytherin Common Room comm., where he lurks.

Severus Snape: Got an LJ when he first arrived at Hogwarts because it seemed the thing to do, but never friended anyone. Created sockpuppet journals that are members of all four Common Room comms, and lurks like woah. The mod of the Ravenclaw Common Room comm suspects that [info]potionsprince is, in fact, not a Ravenclaw but doesn’t much care, since he/she was able to answer all the questions on the Sorting Quiz administered to applicants for that comm. After leaving Hogwarts, he’s obliged to friend a lot of his fellow DE and Voldemort, but filters them out. His posts are all private.

Albus Dumbledore: is one of the biggest BNFs on Wizarding LJ; his flist runs over 2000. Runs the largest wizarding gift fic exchange, [info]pheonix_fest. His flist doesn’t know it, but he has filters within filters within filters, for both reading and posting. Has hacked into Joule, and keeps a private list of who has friended or defriended whom, each week.

Voldemort: uses his journal as a horcrux. All of the DE have friended his journal, of course, and they’re all required to comment on every post. Has a mood theme with different pictures of Nagini. Also is trying to promote the use of LOLSNAKES in macros across LJ, but so far without much success.
