Rec: "Memento Vitae" by Nehelania (Snape/Black)

Sometimes, you just want some feel-good fanfic. And in Snape/Black, that can be hard to find.

Title: Memento Vitae (part I. Part II is here
Author: [info]nehelania
Pairing: Snape/Black
Rating: NC 17
Warnings: Not really. Some snark, nothing worse.

Summary: Black and Snape are forced to revisit some past history.

Sometimes, you just want to feel good. That's one of the main functions of fanfic, in fact. If you're a Snape/Black fan, that can be hard to find, really: it's an angsty pairing, in the hands of most writers. I mean, they hated each other, no? This story manages to develop the pairing in a plausible, well-written fashion, and yet kept me happy and entertained throughout. That's an accomplishment.

The author says her story is a tribute to the doyenne of Snape/Black, the lovely [info]fabularasa. And indeed, this story has a bit of the flavor of those classic Snape/Black fics. In particular, Sirius here reminded me strongly of Fabula's Sirius, only he's OoTP-compliant.

And the "guh" factor here is . . . considerable. The story conveys the eroticism inherent in tension between Snape and Black. It's not terribly plotty (Albus forces Snape and Black to relive past scenes, in order to come to a better understanding) but very readable. If you like this pairing, you'll enjoy this. And even if it's not your OTP, I am pretty sure you'll appreciate the sexual tension here.
