An Editorial Kink: The 14,275th post you've seen about the writer/beta relationship

[info]pir8fancier gave me an early birthday present: a post that is (among other things) surely one of the loveliest Valentines ever written by a writer for her beta.

Of course, my primary reason for linking it is to that you can all go and read about how wonderful I am. (and if you don't think I'm vain enough for that to be one of my possible motives, I suggest that you don't know me that well, yet)

But another reason to link to it is because she also has some strong and IMO very true things to say about the writing process and getting distance from one's ego. And because her post, along with a (locked) post on a friend's journal the other day the beta/writer relationship, made me think more about why I find editorial work so gratifying. It's really a kink, for me. And Pirate's post made me realize why it is that when I am doing my best editorial work with a writer, ego (on either side) has little place in the relationship.

No, you don't really want to click. Because there's nothing I have to say about beta'ing that could possibly be original, at this point )
